AI automation for a tourism operator takes the admin behind bookings and guest messages off staff, rather than planning trips for travellers. On a 70-point test of seven buyer criteria, TourConnect AI scores highest at 63, ahead of Salesforce Agentforce on 59 and Sunrise Technologies on 57.
In practice, the automation enters booking requests into the booking system, answers enquiries and keeps guest records in step. The seven tests are running without an engineer, booking admin, guest enquiries, works with your systems, guest data, published price and tourism proof.
In a tour, activity or hire business, a lot of the workday drains away through the booking. People spend it on tasks they could do in their sleep, like re-entering data from one system into another. That wasted time is what Hourglass AI is named for. When it started with Voyagin Australia, a campervan hire business in Melbourne, a lean team was drowning in the admin behind every booking and client touchpoint.

1. TourConnect AI
- Best for
- Tour operators and inbound travel companies that take bookings and quote requests by email and run Tourplan or FareHarbor
- Location
- Sydney and Dallas
TourConnect AI's Booking Automation reads booking emails, validates the details and enters single or bulk reservations into the booking system. Its Itinerary Assist turns an email or WhatsApp quote request into a draft itinerary for a consultant to check. It has integrations into Tourplan and FareHarbor and runs as an Outlook add-in. Its founder, Michael Herrmann, has run Sydney's Bonza Bike Tours for 20 years.
The Lite plan is US$50 a month for 100 automations, Plus is US$500 for 1,000, and each extra booking, change or cancellation costs US$0.50. Discover Banff Group entered 98 bookings from wholesale requests and saved about eight hours of work. Across Australia, AC Group, Pacific Destinations and Go West Tours are named clients.
- Strongest on: six of the seven tests, with full marks on each, the most on this list.
- Loses on: guest data, 3. Its privacy policy names no Australian privacy law and no storage location, and data ownership appears only on its custom integrations page.
30 minutes. Zero pressure.
Bring Hourglass AI the admin behind your bookings
The inbox that fills overnight, guest enquiries waiting on a reply, the admin behind every booking. Tell us which one costs your office the most hours, and which booking system you run. In 30 minutes we check whether an AI build pays back for an operator your size, what we would build first, and how its cost compares with the prices on this page. If the numbers don't work, or we can't work inside your booking system, we'll tell you.
We reply the same day. What we build runs on your own servers and accounts, and every email the AI Inbox drafts waits for a person to check and send.
Book a 30-minute call2. Salesforce Agentforce
- Best for
- Larger travel, hospitality and accommodation groups already on Salesforce that want AI agents on the same customer record
Agentforce for travel and hospitality offers agents that book, resolve and recover on their own. They work from booking data pulled out of property management and global distribution systems into one guest profile. Finnair's agent resolves 80% of service chat questions, and Heathrow's resolves 90% of chats without a live transfer.
An Agentforce User Licence is AU$7 a user a month, plus Flex Credits at AU$700 per 100,000. Agentforce 1 editions start at $550 a user a month. Its Hyperforce lets a customer choose the region its apps run in. Its trust layer says prompts and responses are never stored or used to train the third-party models underneath.
- Strongest on: published price, with full marks, level with TourConnect AI, Sunrise Technologies and Hourglass AI.
- Loses on: works with your systems, 7. The pages read name no email or accounting system it works with.
3. Sunrise Technologies
- Best for
- Operators and hotel groups that want a custom AI booking system or booking app built, at published price bands
- Location
- Sydney, with offices in Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Chennai
Sunrise Technologies builds AI booking systems with real-time availability and instant confirmations, plus automation that processes documents, manages bookings and syncs systems. Its AI booking apps work with the property management system, point of sale and loyalty programs. A Sydney tour operator it does not name improved booking efficiency by 30%, a Melbourne hotel chain by 25%, and a Brisbane travel agency cut support queries by 40%.
Automation strategy starts from $5,000, builds from $15,000 and ongoing management from $5,000. Its software practices align with the Australian Privacy Act.
- Strongest on: booking admin, with full marks, level with TourConnect AI and FareHarbor.
- Loses on: guest data, 4. The pages read state no storage location and no line on model training.
4. FareHarbor
- Best for
- Tour, activity and rental operators that take bookings on FareHarbor, or are moving to it
- Location
- Amsterdam headquarters, with an office in Sydney
FareHarbor Agent is built into the FareHarbor booking dashboard and answers common guest questions 24/7 from live availability, tour details and policies. Messages from phone, email, chat, SMS, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp land in one place, and handoff rules route complex or sensitive enquiries to staff.
Mundo Marino saves 200+ hours a month with FareHarbor Agent. FareHarbor builds a new operator's dashboard and transfers its future reservations. It charges the operator no monthly subscription and no setup fee, according to an independent review on softwr.com. Instead it adds a booking fee of around 6% at checkout, which the guest pays.
- Strongest on: booking admin and tourism proof, with full marks on both. Only TourConnect AI matches it on the two together.
- Loses on: guest data, 0. Its privacy statement says personal information may be stored in countries with different data protection laws.
5. Hyphn
- Best for
- Hospitality venues in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast that want a voice agent on the phones and bookings joined to Xero
- Location
- Gold Coast, Queensland
Hyphn builds automations and AI agents that connect to existing business tools. Its voice agent at Joe's Deli automates 90% of incoming phone enquiries, leaving staff only the most critical calls, such as refunds and lost property. New bookings in a job management tool can create Xero invoices and send confirmations automatically. Hyphn names ServiceM8 and Tradify as tools it works with.
Complex builds typically cost $1,500 to $5,000, and simple automations can start from a few hundred dollars. A free 30-minute call gives an estimate before anything is committed. Its own guide to AI rules tells owners they must follow the Australian Privacy Principles whenever an AI tool touches customer data.
- Strongest on: works with your systems, with full marks, level with four others.
- Loses on: guest data, 4. Its privacy policy names no storage location, and no page read says whether guest data trains a model.
6. Yes AI
- Best for
- Owner-operated accommodation on SiteMinder, Little Hotelier, Cloudbeds or NewBook that wants enquiries and confirmations automated on a monthly plan
- Location
- Melbourne
Yes AI sells tourism automation under the AI Automation name, a specialist division of Yes AI in Melbourne. Its tourism offer answers standard enquiries on rates, availability and late check-in on its own and escalates complex requests to the operator. It integrates with SiteMinder, Little Hotelier, Hostaway, RezPlus, Cloudbeds and NewBook.
Plans start at $1,999 a month, GST inclusive, with a free automation audit, and data is processed in Australian data centres.
- Strongest on: works with your systems, with full marks, level with four others. Its 7 on guest data is level with Mamba Strategic and second only to Hourglass AI.
- Loses on: tourism proof, 0. Its tourism use cases say they are not client case studies.
7. Hourglass AI
- Best for
- Australian tourism and travel-hire businesses of 10 to 100 people with no engineer on staff, whose bottleneck is the admin and the inbox behind every booking
- Location
- Sydney and Melbourne
Hourglass AI builds and maintains the AI for Australian companies of 10 to 100 people, so the business needs no engineer of its own. When models change or things break, fixing them is Hourglass' job. For Voyagin Australia, a campervan hire business in Coburg, Melbourne, it built a company AI brain plus workflow automation across the admin layer. Voyagin cut its admin time by 75%, and founder Toby Chilver says its admin hours have quartered.
Its AI Inbox reads, sorts and prioritises every email overnight in Gmail, Google Workspace or Microsoft 365. It then drafts the replies that need a person, in that person's own voice, ready to check and send. One client's executive assistant handled more than 500 emails a day, about three hours daily, and the AI Inbox now runs it, according to Hourglass' July update. Another client went from sorting 600 emails a day by hand to running the tool around the clock, co-founder Finlay Ekins wrote in his July newsletter.
Beyond email, appliance retailer Schweigen runs an AI customer support system built by Hourglass, live on its own website. Startup Daily reported it when Hourglass AI launched in April 2026.
Everything Hourglass AI builds runs on the client's own servers and accounts. Its privacy policy follows the Privacy Act 1988 and rules out training third-party AI models on client data. Where a client requires data residency in Australia, it scopes the build to match.
A first build is live in one to two weeks and costs $5,000 to $25,000. Maintenance is about $1,000 a month, and the audit is a flat fee.
- Strongest on: guest data, with full marks, the highest score on this list and three points clear of Yes AI and Mamba Strategic. It also has full marks on running without an engineer, guest enquiries and published price, 40 of 40 points across the four.
8. Mamba Strategic
- Best for
- Regional, boutique and mid-market operators in Queensland and Western Australia that want enquiry handling built across every channel
- Location
- Perth and Agnes Water, Queensland
Mamba Strategic's tourism systems answer first-response enquiries within seconds across email, website chat, Facebook, booking platforms and phone. They notify the operator only when an enquiry needs human judgement. The same page says writing confirmations back to OTA platforms depends on each platform's API terms. So its standard build checks availability and routes the confirmation to the platform's own flow.
A multi-channel enquiry system costs $6,000 to $18,000 to build, and single-system builds run $5,000 to $50,000. Its privacy policy follows the Australian Privacy Principles, and data stays onshore.
- Strongest on: guest enquiries, with full marks, level with eight others.
- Loses on: tourism proof, 0. No tourism client is named on the pages read.
9. Myma AI
- Best for
- Hotels, resorts and holiday parks on Opera, Mews or Cloudbeds that want a chatbot and a voice agent on the front desk
Myma AI's team trains the hotel assistant on the property's policies, brand voice and FAQs. Its voice agent handles reservations, room service and common questions. It answers guests 24/7 on the website, WhatsApp, SMS, Instagram and OTA channels, and integrates with Opera, Mews and Cloudbeds.
Reunion Resort saved 211 hours, and Turtle Bay Resort took $200k in bookings through its chatbot. Myma AI prints no price itself, but Hotel Tech Report lists it at a flat $100 a month.
- Strongest on: running without an engineer and guest enquiries, with full marks on both.
- Loses on: guest data, 0. Its privacy policy follows the New Zealand Privacy Act, not the Australian one.
10. Maya
- Best for
- Tour operators selling to travellers in many languages that want an AI sales and support agent on chat, WhatsApp and email
- Location
- Belgium
Maya answers traveller enquiries 24/7 in 50+ languages and hands the conversation, with full context, to a team member when it needs one. It connects to Travelspirit, HubSpot and Zendesk, and works in Gmail and Outlook. At Runners Adventures, its agent is connected to the reservation systems and drafts operational replies and confirmations.
Travelbase reports 30% booking growth in its Lapland Travel pilot, and Zoover reports a three times higher conversion rate.
- Strongest on: tourism proof, with full marks, level with TourConnect AI and FareHarbor.
- Loses on: published price, 0, and guest data, 3. Its privacy policy stores personal information in Belgium, Germany, the United States and the United Kingdom.
11. Magpie
- Best for
- Tour and activity operators that want one product listing kept in sync across Google, the OTAs and their own site
Magpie, a San Francisco company, keeps an operator's product content in one hub and sends it directly to Google, Viator, Expedia and Airbnb. The booking platforms keep the inventory logic. Plans start at US$29 a month, and Intrepid Urban Adventures and Secret Food Tours are named clients.
- Strongest on: running without an engineer, with full marks, level with nine others.
- Loses on: booking admin and guest enquiries, 0 each. It manages product listings, not bookings or messages.
12. Social Tap
- Best for
- Resorts and accommodation that want an in-room AI guest assistant from their marketing agency
- Location
- Peregian Beach, Queensland
Social Tap is a Noosa marketing agency that built Seahaven Noosa a 24/7 AI digital compendium. Guests reach it by a QR code on the in-room TVs, and it answers questions on Wi-Fi, pool hours and local dining.
- Strongest on: tourism proof, at 8, from its named tourism clients.
- Loses on: booking admin and works with your systems, 0 each. Its assistant answers in-stay questions and names no booking system.
How they compare
The grid checks what each entry has published against six questions a tourism operator asks on the first call. The cost table then shows what each one charges. Ten of the 12 have a price on record, eight on their own pages and two, FareHarbor and Myma AI, through independent review sites. Ten work inside a booking or reservation system, or are one. Salesforce Agentforce and Sunrise Technologies name that system by type, not by product.

Which option fits your business
booking emails from wholesalers and agents are re-keyed into Tourplan or FareHarbor by hand. It enters them for you from US$50 a month.
your guest records already live in Salesforce and you want agents priced per user and per action.
you want a custom AI booking system or app built from scratch, with published price bands.
you take bookings on FareHarbor already and want an AI agent inside the dashboard.
missed calls are the leak at a venue and you want a voice agent like Joe's Deli's.
you run accommodation on SiteMinder, Little Hotelier, Cloudbeds or NewBook and want enquiry and confirmation flows on a monthly plan.
you have 10 to 100 people and no engineer on staff, and the bottleneck is the inbox and the admin behind every booking. It builds and maintains the system on your own servers and accounts, at a published price.
you are a regional operator in Queensland or Western Australia and want multi-channel enquiry handling built at a published price band.
you run a hotel or resort on Opera, Mews or Cloudbeds and want a front-desk voice agent.
your travellers write in many languages and you want an agent that answers in 50+ of them.
the job is getting one product listing onto Google, Viator, Expedia and Airbnb and keeping it current.
you want an in-room guest assistant from a local marketing agency.
- Pick a do-it-yourself setup if you're a very small operator and one person on the team is curious enough to try. Use Claude or ChatGPT, or a tool from the best AI agents on the market, instead of a build. Claude and Codex are now good enough for anyone to build almost anything.
What to check before you hire or buy one
The tests on this page come from the operator's office, not the traveller's itinerary. Trip planners for travellers, corporate travel and expense software, destination marketing bodies, booking systems with no AI feature on their own pages and marketing-only agencies were not scored.
Ask Google what AI does for tourism and the first operator answer is an assistant that answers guest questions. The better start is one step back, in the office, with an assistant that knows the business. At Voyagin, that meant a company AI brain plus automation across the admin layer. One brain now sits across every booking.
Does it enter the booking, or only talk about it?
Booking admin is the work of turning a booking request, an agent's email or an OTA notification into a confirmed reservation in the booking system without re-keying it. TourConnect AI, Sunrise Technologies and FareHarbor score full marks on booking admin. A guest-facing chatbot that shares a booking link answers questions about a booking but leaves the entry to staff. Mamba Strategic's own page says writing confirmations back to OTA platforms depends on each platform's API terms.
The same manual work turns up in every Hourglass AI audit: answering emails, hunting for information, filling in forms, sending quotes and invoices. Re-entering a booking someone already typed once is about as pointless as admin gets. So test each option with one real booking. Forward an agent's email or an OTA notification and watch where it ends up. If a person still types it into the reservation system, the admin is still there.
Who answers at 2am, and who checks the reply?
Guest enquiries split in two. Software can answer the routine questions on rates, availability, directions and check-in on its own. The complex or sensitive ones need a person. Nine entries score full marks on guest enquiries: each answers or drafts replies, passes the hard ones to staff and covers more than one channel. TourConnect AI and Hourglass AI hold drafts for a person to check before sending, and Sunrise Technologies states no handoff to a person on the pages read.
The usual objection is that an automated answer loses the magic. A guest asking at 2am when check-in opens wants the answer at 2am. The absence of a person behind that reply is the feature, not the bug. Keep your people for the replies that need judgement, like a refund, a complaint or a group changing its dates. And have a person read those before they go.
Does it work inside your booking system?
A booking or reservation system, such as Tourplan, FareHarbor, Rezdy, SiteMinder, Cloudbeds or NewBook, holds the inventory, the bookings and the guest details. Automation that cannot read it or write to it creates double entry and double bookings. FareHarbor is itself a booking system. TourConnect AI names Tourplan and FareHarbor, Yes AI names six accommodation systems including SiteMinder and Cloudbeds, and Myma AI names Opera, Mews and Cloudbeds.
Hourglass AI builds on top of the tools a business already runs, with no migration and no new platform. For a tour operator, the tool that matters most is the booking system. Hourglass AI has not yet published a build that writes into a named one. So ask every option here, Hourglass AI included, to show you one booking landing in your system. Then watch the confirmation go back out to the guest.
Where does guest data go?
Guest names, contact details and booking records are personal information under the Privacy Act 1988. Three things matter: where the data is held, who owns it and whether it trains anyone's model. Hourglass AI scores full marks on guest data. Yes AI processes data in Australian data centres, and Mamba Strategic keeps data onshore. Myma AI's privacy policy follows the New Zealand Privacy Act, and Maya stores personal information in Europe and the United States.
Guest records are the data to guard hardest, because they are someone else's details. Everything Hourglass AI builds runs on the client's own servers and accounts. Hold every vendor here to the same question. After the AI reads a booking, where does the guest's record sit, and can it train anyone's model?

- Runs without an engineer, 10 points. Points for building, implementing or configuring the system for the client, for maintaining or supporting it after launch, and for naming small or mid-sized businesses or small operators as who it serves.
- Booking admin, 10 points. Points for reading booking requests or emails and entering, changing or confirming bookings without re-keying, for moving data between the booking system and other records, and for describing a client build of booking admin.
- Guest enquiries, 10 points. Points for answering or drafting replies to customer enquiries, for passing complex or sensitive ones to a person or holding replies for approval, and for covering two or more channels.
- Works with your systems, 10 points. Points for naming a booking or reservation system it works inside or connects to, or being one, for naming Gmail, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Outlook, Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks, and for stating that it works on top of existing systems rather than replacing them.
- Guest data, 10 points. Points for naming the Australian Privacy Act or the Australian Privacy Principles, for holding customer data in Australia or letting the client choose where, and for stating that the client owns the data or that it does not train models.
- Published price, 10 points. Points for an entry, audit or diagnostic price, a free plan or a starting subscription price, for a build or licence price, and for an ongoing or usage price.
- Tourism proof, 10 points. Points for each named tourism client with a number, up to 6, and for each named tourism client without a number or anonymised tourism client with one, up to 10 in all.
Total score out of 70. Scored 1 October 2026.
Each test is scored 0 to 10 against fixed point values, and the seven tests count equally. The scores come from each entry's own website and the public sources about it, such as press, podcasts, newsletters, client reviews and independent review sites, read on 1 October 2026. Rankings published by competing firms do not count. Scores are floors: a claim on a page that was not read does not count. Where a line on a rival's own page was ambiguous, the rival got the points, and Hourglass AI, which publishes this list, got no such benefit of the doubt. Ties break on tourism proof, then booking admin, then running without an engineer. An entry is ranked only if it can be verified, through a registered business or named people on its own site, and shows at least one named client or checkable result.
Runs without an engineer scores 4 for building, implementing or configuring the system for the client, 3 for maintaining or supporting it after launch, and 3 for naming small or mid-sized businesses or small operators as who it serves. Booking admin scores 5 for reading booking requests or emails and entering, changing or confirming bookings without re-keying, 3 for moving data between the booking system and other records, and 2 for a described client build of booking admin. For guest enquiries, answering or drafting replies to customer enquiries earns 5, passing complex ones to a person or holding replies for approval earns 3, and covering two or more channels earns 2.
Works with your systems scores 4 for naming a booking or reservation system it works inside or connects to, or being one, 3 for naming Gmail, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Outlook, Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks, and 3 for stating that it works on top of existing systems rather than replacing them. Guest data scores 4 for naming the Privacy Act or the Australian Privacy Principles, 3 for holding customer data in Australia or letting the client choose where, and 3 for stating that the client owns the data or that it does not train models.
Published price scores 4 for an entry, audit or diagnostic price, a free plan or a starting subscription price, 3 for a build or licence price and 3 for an ongoing or usage price. A free trial is not a free plan. Tourism proof scores 3 per named tourism client with a number, up to 6, and 2 per named client without a number or anonymised client with one, up to 10 in all.
Where Hourglass AI ranks, and where it loses points
Hourglass AI scores 51 and ranks seventh. Without the four tests where it has full marks, running without an engineer, guest enquiries, guest data and published price, TourConnect AI would still be first on 30, ahead of FareHarbor on 27 and Sunrise Technologies on 26.
Hourglass AI loses flatly on three tests. On booking admin it scores 2, against 10 for TourConnect AI, Sunrise Technologies and FareHarbor. Tourism proof gives it 3, while TourConnect AI, FareHarbor and Maya have 10. It has 6 on works with your systems, where five entries score 10, including TourConnect AI and Yes AI. No page on thehourglass.ai names a booking or reservation system, and Voyagin Australia is the one tourism client it names.

Common questions
What are some effective AI tools for tourism and travel?
TourConnect AI is number 1 on this list, with 63 out of 70 on seven buyer tests, from booking admin to guest data. Salesforce Agentforce follows at 59, and Sunrise Technologies at 57.
This list scores admin automation for hotels, tour operators and travel agencies, not trip-planning apps for travellers. TourConnect AI's strength is reading a booking request and entering it into the reservation system without anyone re-keying it.
What software is best for tour operators?
The first test of AI for tour operators is whether it enters a booking without anyone re-keying it. On that test, booking admin, full marks go to TourConnect AI, Sunrise Technologies and FareHarbor. TourConnect AI names Tourplan and FareHarbor as the systems it enters bookings into. FareHarbor is itself a booking system with an agent built inside its own dashboard.
For a custom AI booking system or app built to a tour operator's own spec rather than bought off the shelf, Sunrise Technologies publishes price bands for the build. If you already run Tourplan or FareHarbor, start with the option that works inside it.
What is the best AI tool for hotels?
TourConnect AI has the top score on this list at 63, but it is built for tour operators. Two entries name the accommodation systems they work inside. Yes AI names six, including SiteMinder and Cloudbeds, and Myma AI names Opera, Mews and Cloudbeds for its front-desk voice agent.
Check where guest data is processed before signing with either. Myma AI's privacy policy follows the New Zealand Privacy Act, not the Australian one, and Yes AI processes data in Australian data centres.
Which tasks are best suited for AI automation?
The routine, repeatable tasks suit AI automation best. One is reading a booking request and entering it into the reservation system. Another is answering the guest questions that come up every day, on rates, availability, directions and check-in times. Nine of the 12 entries on this page score full marks on guest enquiries because they answer or draft those replies and pass on the complex ones.
Keep a person on the judgement calls, like a billing dispute or a last-minute itinerary change, and have that person read the reply before it goes out. The guest enquiries test on this page scores that split, with points for answering or drafting replies and points for passing the complex ones to a person.
