AI automation for a manufacturer is software that does the office admin around documents, emails and orders. It is not robots on the factory floor. On a 70-point test of running without an engineer, paperwork, systems fit, speed, price and proof, AI Advancements scores highest at 59, ahead of Salesforce Agentforce on 55 and Hourglass AI on 54.

1. AI Advancements
- Best for
- Resources, energy and regulated businesses in Western Australia that want AI engineers embedded in their team
- Location
- Osborne Park, Perth
AI Advancements embeds its own AI engineers directly in a client's team. Its compliance assistant for 3Lines reads handwritten notes and scanned documents, which turned an 8-hour, $1,600 document job into a 10-minute, $5 one. It also checks every Statement of Advice against the Corporations Act.
One Fortescue automation saves about three hours a day. Amplitude Energy's finance team got a week back every month from an agent that ties every balance back to SAP. A report-writing build for Bellarine Psychology was delivered in two days. Development starts with a paid $2,000 scoping engagement, credited to the build.
- Beats the field on: paper and documents, 10/10, the only full marks on this list. It also has full marks on running without an engineer, works with your systems, time to first build and manufacturing proof.
- Loses on: published price, 4. It publishes only the scoping fee, not a build or ongoing price.
2. Salesforce Agentforce
- Best for
- Manufacturers and distributors already on Salesforce that want AI agents on the same platform
Salesforce's Starter Suite starts at AU$35 per user a month with email integration for Gmail or Outlook. Agentforce 1 editions start at $550 per user a month, and agent actions are billed per Flex Credit. MuleSoft connects Legend Corporation's SAP to Salesforce, and Document AI reads information locked in PDFs and images so agents can act on it.
Team Global Express resolves 50% of common enquiries with Agentforce. Fisher & Paykel lifted appliance support self-service from 40% to 70%, and reMarkable deployed its first AI agent in three weeks.
- Beats the field on: none outright. It has full marks on five tests, level with AI Advancements for the most on this list.
- Loses on: export and compliance paperwork, 0. The pages read describe no compliance or export paperwork handling.
3. Hourglass AI
- Best for
- Australian manufacturers and regional operators of 10 to 100 people with no engineer on staff
- Location
- Sydney and Melbourne
Hourglass AI builds and maintains the AI for Australian companies of 10 to 100 people, so the business needs no engineer of its own. When models change or things break, that is Hourglass' job.
Its Company AI Brain joins the files, email, CRM and finance systems a business already runs, including Xero, into one knowledge layer. That layer sits above those systems rather than replacing them. Co-founder Michael Batko told AI Down Under that what Hourglass builds always sits on the client's own infrastructure. Its largest client brain holds 71,000 files, and clients typically find information 60 to 80% faster within 30 days.
On that foundation it builds agents for the back office: order processing, scheduling and route planning, invoice chasing and reconciliation checks. Its AI Inbox reads and sorts every email in Gmail or Microsoft 365 overnight. A first build is live in one to two weeks, at $5,000 to $25,000, with maintenance at about $1,000 a month.
A forestry and timber business cut its board reporting from two days to about 20 minutes. In Tasmania, a timber manufacturer signed five builds, one of which replaces a $30,000-a-month vendor. A meat processor found the website, did an audit and started a build in under three weeks. Schweigen's own review says the chatbot Finlay Ekins led for it was delivered in under two months.
By June 2026 Hourglass AI had worked with 35 companies. Batko backed 228 companies with first cheques during his time running Startmate.
- Strongest on: runs without an engineer, works with your systems, time to first build and published price. It has full marks on all four, 40 of 40 points, and is one of two entries with full marks on published price.

Book a 30-minute call4. 4mation
- Best for
- Manufacturers and transport businesses that want AI inside a larger custom-software build
- Location
- Sydney
4mation builds site, dispatch and warehouse software that integrates with Xero, MYOB, TechnologyOne and SAP, with compliance engines that keep WHS, OHS and quality assurance records audit-ready. For transport clients it replaces paper proofs of delivery, and SG Fleet's rebuilt quote calculator produced a 500% increase in quotes.
Its chatbot for Ego Pharmaceuticals' QV IQ handled 684 chats in its first month. The Premium AI consulting package builds an AI assistant in an engagement of up to one month for $10,000 plus GST, and chatbot packages are $20,000 and $40,000 ex GST.
- Beats the field on: none outright. Paper and documents, 8, is second only to AI Advancements.
- Loses on: manufacturing proof, 6, and works with your systems, 7. The pages read name no email system or Microsoft 365.
5. IFS
- Best for
- Mid-size and large manufacturers replacing their ERP, production and asset systems with one platform
IFS brings ERP, MES, EAM, supply chain and industrial AI together on one platform, with compliance and end-to-end traceability for regulated manufacturing. It captures supplier invoice data from emails, PDFs and images with OCR and AI.
Miele's Australian and New Zealand rollout went live within nine months for about 200 field technicians and contact centre agents. Cheer Pack North America anticipates $1.5 million a year in savings from IFS.ai running the autonomous vehicles on its shop floor.
- Beats the field on: none outright. Export and compliance paperwork, 5, is level with the highest on this list.
- Loses on: published price, 0, and works with your systems, 3. It replaces the ERP rather than working with the one you run.
6. Tacton
- Best for
- Makers of complex, configurable products that need quoting connected to SAP or Dynamics
Tacton is configure, price and quote software built only for manufacturers of complex products, and it integrates with SAP, Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Oracle. Alimak cut its product-modelling time by up to 80%, and Spectrum Industries raised its quote efficiency by 50%. IMI took about a year from contract to first launch and has since grown from twelve product lines to about fifty.
- Beats the field on: none outright. Manufacturing proof, 8, is level with IFS.
- Loses on: export and compliance paperwork and published price, 0 each. Quoting is its whole job.
7. Complexica
- Best for
- Large food, beverage and industrial distributors that need demand planning, pricing and scheduling optimisation
- Location
- Adelaide
Complexica is an Adelaide software company whose Decision Cloud covers demand planning, integrated scheduling and ports, rail and road logistics. It names PFD Food Services and Asahi Beverages as clients, DuluxGroup and Polyaire on its company page, and quotes Pernod Ricard Winemakers' global operations director on its logistics page. Its order management page says a basic single-location system can be ready in as little as two weeks.
- Beats the field on: none outright. Manufacturing proof, 10, is level with AI Advancements and Salesforce Agentforce.
- Loses on: paper and documents and published price, 0 each. Neither appears on the pages read.
8. Canon
- Best for
- Businesses with rooms of paper that need scanning, data capture and managed document services
Canon's intelligent document and data capture software takes manual data entry off staff and captures email through native Microsoft Office integrations. Its process automation handles compliance, audit and legislative requirements for records, and InComPro cut its annual NDIS audit from three weeks of manual work to minutes. Goldengrove Building Group used it to lift its invoice processing capacity.
- Beats the field on: none outright. Runs without an engineer, 10, is level with the top four.
- Loses on: time to first build and published price, 0 each. Neither appears on the pages read.
How they compare
The first table answers five questions a regional operator asks on the first call, from each entry's own pages, documentation and customer stories. The second shows what each one charges. Four of the eight publish a price. Four say they capture data from paper or scanned documents.

Which option fits your business
you are in Western Australia, your paperwork arrives handwritten or scanned, and you want engineers in your team one day a week. Its 3Lines work is the strongest paper proof on this list.
your sales and service already run on Salesforce and you want agents priced per user and per action.
you have 10 to 100 people and no engineer on staff. You get a published price, a first build live in one to two weeks and a system maintained for you on your own infrastructure.
the AI is one part of a larger custom-software project, such as dispatch or site apps connected to Xero or MYOB.
you are replacing your ERP anyway and want production, assets and industrial AI on one platform.
quoting a configurable product takes your engineers days. It integrates with SAP and Dynamics.
you distribute at scale and the problem is demand planning, promotions or port and freight scheduling, the optimisation work it names.
the job is getting paper out of the filing room and into a records system with audit-ready retention.
- Pick a do-it-yourself setup with Claude or ChatGPT on a work account if you have fewer than about 10 people and one repetitive job to fix.
What to check before you hire or buy one
This page is written for a regional manufacturer or distributor of 10 to 100 people with no engineer on staff. That business is under-served. More than half of Australian SMEs are yet to meaningfully adopt AI, and services firms lead industrials in AI uptake because their barriers to entry are lower. These plants have hard problems, such as routing trucks the shortest distance and packing containers to the millimetre. They were never going to hire the people who could solve them in software.
So the tests here are about the office, not the factory floor. In Australia, Google's AI answer for "ai in manufacturing" leads with predictive maintenance, computer vision and cobots. Those need sensor data and engineers to run them. A plant with no engineer gets its first return from the paperwork, the inbox, the reports and the routes. That is administrative, clerical and routine finance work, which the Reserve Bank's survey of firms lists among the roles AI is most likely to change.
Who keeps it running?
In a business of 10 to 100 people without an engineering team, the question that matters is who fixes the system when a model changes or a supplier sends a new form. Five entries score full marks on running without an engineer. The other three score 7: they build or implement the system and support it after launch, but the pages read do not name small or mid-sized businesses as who they serve.
The gains also take time to land. The Reserve Bank notes that established manufacturers may see short-term productivity losses before longer-term gains while they adjust their processes. Ask each option who supports the system through that period, and what that support costs a month.
Does it start with your paperwork?
If your orders and compliance records arrive on paper, check these two tests first. AI Advancements scores full marks on paper and documents because its assistant reads handwritten notes and scanned documents. Four entries earn points for compliance, QA or audit records. No entry states that it handles export, customs or trade documentation.
For a food or meat exporter that gap matters. The Department of Agriculture's export guide says an importing country's requirements can include certificates issued by the department. Ask each option to run your own export documents on the first call.
Will your team use it?
Nineteen per cent of SMEs say they simply don't know how to use AI in their business. A build only pays back when someone in the office drives it. Ask who trains your team on your own documents, and decide who in your office will own it. In a regional plant that is usually the person who already builds the spreadsheets everyone relies on.
How this list is ranked
- Runs without an engineer, 10 points. Points for building or configuring the system for the client, maintaining it after launch, and naming small or mid-sized businesses as who it serves.
- Paper and documents, 10 points. Points for reading documents, scans, PDFs or paperwork into data, naming handwriting or dockets, and a described client build of that kind.
- Export and compliance paperwork, 10 points. Points for handling compliance, QA or audit paperwork, and for naming export, customs or trade documentation.
- Works with your systems, 10 points. Points for naming an ERP or accounting system it works inside, naming email or Microsoft 365, and working on top of existing systems rather than replacing them.
- Time to first build, 10 points. Points for a published time to first build, and more if it is four weeks or less.
- Published price, 10 points. Points for a published entry price, a build or licence price, and an ongoing price.
- Manufacturing proof, 10 points. Points for named manufacturing, food, resources or logistics clients with a number, and for named clients without one or anonymised clients with one.
Total score out of 70. Scored 1 October 2026.
Each test is scored 0 to 10 against fixed point values, and the seven tests count equally. Every entry was read from its own website on 30 September 2026. Each was re-read on 1 October 2026 across its case studies, product documentation, customer stories, newsletters, podcasts and press, the same widened read for every entry. Scores are floors: a claim on a page that was not read does not count, and where a line is ambiguous the rival gets the point. Ties break on manufacturing proof, then running without an engineer. An entry is ranked only if it can be verified, through a registered business or named people on its own site, and shows at least one named client or checkable result.
Runs without an engineer scores 4 for building, implementing or configuring the system for the client, 3 for maintaining or supporting it after launch, and 3 for naming small or mid-sized businesses as who it serves. Paper and documents scores 5 for reading documents, scans, PDFs, photos or paperwork into data, 3 for naming handwriting or dockets, and 2 for a described client build of that kind. Export and compliance paperwork scores 5 for compliance, QA, regulatory or audit paperwork and 5 for export, customs or trade documentation.
Works with your systems scores 4 for naming an ERP or accounting system it works inside, 3 for naming email, Microsoft 365 or Google, and 3 for stating that it works on top of existing systems rather than replacing them. Time to first build scores 6 for a published time and 4 more if it is four weeks or less. Published price scores 4 for an entry price, 3 for a build or licence price and 3 for an ongoing price. Manufacturing proof scores 3 per named manufacturing, food, resources or logistics client with a number, up to 6, and 2 per named client without a number or anonymised client with one, up to 10 in all.
What changed when every entry was re-read
Re-reading every entry on 1 October changed the order. AI Advancements and Salesforce Agentforce moved ahead of Hourglass AI on evidence from their own case studies and customer stories. Without time to first build and published price, AI Advancements would still be first on 45, ahead of 4mation on 36, Salesforce Agentforce on 35 and Hourglass AI on 34.
Where Hourglass AI loses points
Hourglass AI loses on three tests. AI Advancements scores 10 and 4mation 8 on paper and documents, against Hourglass AI's 7. Four entries score 5 on export and compliance paperwork, AI Advancements, 4mation, IFS and Canon, where Hourglass AI scores 0. Manufacturing proof goes to AI Advancements, Salesforce Agentforce and Complexica on 10 and IFS and Tacton on 8, with Hourglass AI on 7.

Common questions
What is the best AI for manufacturing?
For an Australian manufacturer of 10 to 100 people without an engineer, AI Advancements is number 1 on this list, with 59 out of 70. Salesforce Agentforce scores 55 and Hourglass AI 54. The seven tests are running without an engineer, paper and documents, export and compliance paperwork, fit with existing systems, time to first build, published price and manufacturing proof.
The best choice changes with the job. IFS suits a manufacturer replacing its ERP, Tacton suits quoting configurable products, Canon suits getting paper into a records system, and Complexica suits demand planning and freight scheduling at distributor scale.
How is AI used in the manufacturing industry?
On the factory floor, AI is used for predictive maintenance, quality inspection with computer vision, supply-chain forecasting and robots that work alongside operators. In the office of a regional manufacturer, it is used for the admin around the plant: reading documents and email, order processing, scheduling, invoice checks and board reporting.
A forestry and timber business cut its board reporting from two days to about 20 minutes with Hourglass AI. IFS reports that Cheer Pack North America anticipates $1.5 million a year in savings from IFS.ai running autonomous vehicles on its shop floor.
How is AI used in logistics?
AI in logistics and trucking plans truck routes, packs containers, answers freight and delivery enquiries, and schedules ports, rail and road.
Team Global Express resolves 50% of common enquiries with Salesforce Agentforce. 4mation replaces paper proofs of delivery for transport clients. Complexica sells optimisation software for ports, rail and road logistics. Hourglass AI builds route planning and order processing agents for businesses without an engineer.
