Automation services are done-for-you engagements that take a manual business process and rebuild it to run without the manual work: documents processed into your systems of record, data entry that keys itself, workflows that move from step to step without a person pushing. The provider designs, builds, and hands over the running system.
The filter that decides what to automate
Finlay's filter for this whole category is the sharpest I've heard, and it's the one we use in audits: anything currently offshored is a candidate for automation, full stop. If a business decided a task was cheap enough to offshore, it already accepted a quality trade-off, and AI can often do that task better, faster, and without the coordination overhead. So don't benchmark automation against the quality you're getting from your current BPO provider. Benchmark against the quality you gave up when you offshored.
The RPA question
A generation of finance and back-office automation runs on RPA: scripts that log in, copy values, and click through screens. It works, and it's brittle, because the scripts replay instead of reasoning, and they break whenever a screen or an input format changes. The live decision in most operations teams is not whether to automate but whether to keep patching the scripts or move the messy parts to agentic automation that reads the content instead of the pixels.
| You have | The automation answer |
|---|---|
| Invoices, forms, claims arriving as PDFs and email | Document processing into the ledger or CRM |
| Staff re-keying data between systems | Data entry automation through the systems' APIs |
| A process that dies when one person is on leave | Workflow automation with the steps made explicit |
| An offshore team doing repetitive back-office work | AI-first BPO, benchmarked honestly |
Workshop-then-build
Our delivery model is one workshop day and your team ships its own automations. We map the processes with the people who run them, build the highest-payback automation live, and leave the team able to extend it. The build mechanics live in AI development, and if what you're automating is really a whole role rather than a process, the AI roles section is the better map.
